The first in the Artist Collaboration Series.

Skagit Spring is No. 032. It is the first guitar in the Artist Collaboration Series, pairing Jeremy's building with interior painting by Northwest Montana artist Marshall Noice. The instrument debuted at the La Conner Guitar Festival in Washington in May 2025.

Lutz spruce on top, Oregon Myrtle for the back and sides, sourced from Pacific Rim Tonewoods and Fiddleback Woodshack. The Lutz combines Sitka's projection with additional warmth. The Myrtle sits between rosewood and mahogany on the tonal map.

It is bright on the high end and warm in the low. It opens up under fingerstyle. Tim Torgerson, the musician who performs on most Pappenfüs introduction videos, has played it on camera.

Skagit Spring.

Lutz spruce, Oregon Myrtle, and a painted interior by Marshall Noice. The first in the Artist Collaboration Series.

Chapter One . The Wood

Lutz spruce, Oregon Myrtle, mahogany.

The top is Lutz spruce: a natural Sitka-and-white-spruce hybrid out of the Pacific Northwest, picked for projection plus warmth. Back and sides are Oregon Myrtle, sourced from Pacific Rim Tonewoods and Fiddleback Woodshack. Each piece was tap-tested and matched before any cutting began.

Chapter Two . The Voice

Bracing voiced by ear.

The X bracing was carved, fitted, and voiced by hand. Each rib was tapped and trimmed until the top sang the way it should. There is no template for this part.

Chapter Three . The Finish

French polish, by hand.

The body wears French polish shellac, applied layer by layer and buffed between coats. The neck wears Osmo poly-x, more durable where the hand makes contact. The interior carries Marshall Noice's painting, the first in an ongoing collaboration with Northwest Montana artists.
